Nordskog Publishing’s founding Theology Editor and personal friend, Rev. Christopher Hoops, has gone home to be with the Lord, Thursday July 17, 2008, after a lengthy and painful illness at his Roseville, CA home. Hoops encouraged Jerry & Gail Nordskog, after selling Powerboat Magazine, to embark into the Christian publishing business in the last couple of years, beginning with reprinting of The Battle of Lexington book (see Chris Hoops article in that book). Chris Hoops is a long time loyal friend, who regularly participated in Nordskog’s Southern California Constitution Education Committee, giving speeches about American’s Christian History and Liberty in Christ (1987-2000). A faithful Christian for most of his adult life, Chris Hoops was a leader in Reformed theology and the history of the Church and a great reader of theology and history books, writing and speaking and teaching others in the faith. Rev. Hoops has been reunited with his oldest daughter, Erin, who died in an auto accident at age 16 many years ago in Colville, WA where the family lived for many years and Chris received his liver transplant, which eventually failed. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gail, and sons Christopher (and his wife Shay), Michael, and adopted daughters still living at home: Bridgette, Tia, and Katie. FLAG DAY (June 14)

In 1885, a 19 year-old teacher named Bernard J. Cigrand placed a 10-inch flag on his desk and asked students to write essays on the flag and its significance. This assignment launched Cirand’s fervent, decades-long effort to bring about the national observance of Flag Day to honor the Stars and Stripes. When Cigrand was 50 years old, his perseverance finally paid off. In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation calling for annual observance of Flag Day on June 14. I handed it to my wife when I was done and told her that she would get an excellent overview of The Revelation of John by reading it. Greg Uttinger does a great job of laying out the big picture using the Old Testament as a backdrop for our understanding. (I look forward to reading the other books as well).
